We prepare pure form of potassium stannate having molecular formula K2SnO3·3H2O or K2Sn(OH)6. The stannate is white to off-white in color. It finds application in synthesizing chemicals in diverse industries including as salt in alkaline tin plating electrolyte. In addition the chemical is also used for alloy coatings (tin-aluminum, tin-zinc, tin-copper), in immersion tin process and to steel plating in non-corrosive process. It also acts as a good stabilizer in hydrogen peroxide.
